National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza has expressed her satisfaction that the ad hoc committee investigating allegations of police corruption has successfully convinced forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan to testify in person.

O’Sullivan had previously refused to appear physically, requesting a virtual appearance due to security concerns.

The committee had initially sought for Didiza to issue a subpoena to force O’Sullivan, as well as alleged ANC fixer Brown Mogotsi, to appear. However, she declined the request, advising the committee to continue engaging directly with the witnesses.

Parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo confirmed that Didiza is happy the committee managed to reach an understanding with O’Sullivan, who has now agreed to appear in person on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"The Speaker of the National Assembly welcomes the ad hoc committee’s decision to continue engaging with Brown Mogotsi and Paul O’Sullivan, following her guidance that further substantive engagement be pursued before resorting to the issuing of summonses," Mothapo said.

"The Speaker is pleased that this approach has resulted in one of these witnesses availing himself to appear physically before the ad hoc committee to testify, from Tuesday, without the need for summonses to be issued."
