The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is expected to clarify the non-payment of scholar transport providers on Tuesday.
This development has led to the suspension of scholar transport services.
The impasse has left thousands of schoolchildren in the lurch for two weeks after the department failed to pay service providers, despite promises that the issue is being resolved.
The GDE’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, said MEC Matome Chiloane will meet with service providers.
“This meeting will pave a way forward to resolve the impasse between the service providers and the department. subsequently the MEC will then brief the public on developments around ongoing engagements, and measures being implemented so that we ensure that there is no interruption to learner access to education in Gauteng,” said Mabona.
