Controversial forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan says allegations that he infiltrated the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) are a "blatant lie."

He has also rejected allegations that he targeted former Acting National Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane to try to clear the way for former IPID head Robert McBride to become National Commissioner.

O’Sullivan was back before Parliament for a second day to give evidence before the Ad Hoc Committee probing police corruption.

He took the stand to face more questions from members of the committee regarding allegations of interference levelled against him.

O’Sullivan is alleged to have inserted himself into IPID and police investigations and to have attended social functions with IPID officials.

But he says the allegations are not true.

"It’s a blatant lie. I have not infiltrated IPID. What happened very simply was that I opened a docket against Phahlane in February 2016, and for 10 months IPID flatly refused to investigate that docket."

He says the reason they refused to investigate was because IPID was part of what he calls the “state capture project,” and when McBride was reinstated, he informed him about the case.
