A total of 36 incidents were recorded at 32 schools, down from 47 incidents at 34 schools during the previous holiday period.

Western Cape Education MEC David Maynier said school vandalism has dropped by 23% in the recent summer holidays.

A total of 36 incidents were recorded at 32 schools, down from 47 incidents at 34 schools during the previous holiday period.

Maynier said that while incidents have decreased, a single school reported more than 100 windows broken over the holiday period.

He is urging members of the public with any knowledge to come forward.

"We subsidised holiday security at 441 schools during the holidays to protect school properties and have worked closely with the South African Police Service, and law enforcement to increase vigilance around our schools."
