The City of Ekurhuleni claims the metro remains stable despite serious troubles within the African National Congress (ANC)-led coalition.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) announced its withdrawal from the coalition on Wednesday, after Mayor Doctor Xhakaza announced a major cabinet reshuffle.
The changes saw the EFF’s seats in the mayoral committee cut from four to two.

ActionSA says Xolani Khumalo won’t be joining Ekurhuleni mayoral committee
At the same time, ActionSA mayoral candidate Xolani Khumalo was appointed MMC for Community Services and By-law Enforcement.
Following a Cabinet reshuffle by Xhakaza, both the EFF and ActionSA claimed they were never consulted before the changes were announced.
ActionSA has since refused to be part of the ANC-led coalition, while the EFF has officially withdrawn from the pact.
As a result, Xhakaza’s mayoral committee has been reduced to just seven members, with three positions now standing vacant.
Despite this, Ekurhuleni spokesperson Phakamile Mbengashe said everything is under control.
“The municipality is definitely still intact. Service delivery has not been interrupted.”
This also leaves the ANC leading a minority government and without a crucial 500-plus-one majority.
