The pair are facing charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and possession of a firearm.

The firearm charge comes despite police not yet having recovered the gun used to shoot an employee at the Mugabes' luxury Hyde Park property last week.

It remained unclear who shot the 23-year-old employee, who is believed to be a security guard.
