Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya has admitted to operating several cash-based businesses following revelations that he paid a staff member in cash on multiple occasions.

The disclosure comes after it emerged that Sibiya reportedly reimbursed Sergeant Fannie Nkosi for various expenses paid out of the Sergeant's personal account.

This includes the payment of R1,000 for school fees for an unidentified person as well as R5,000 for fridge repairs for Sibiya.

Sibiya claims he would pay Nkosi in cash because he has several businesses that deal with cash.

"Now, the cash I have is because I have other businesses that I actually declared, that some of them are cash-based in such a way that I will get that amount of money in my own hands."

From renting out rooms, an e-hailing service, owning a jazz club and even scholar transport, Sibiya said some of the companies registered to his name have since closed.
