Western Cape police have revealed they are yet to receive a criminal complaint related to a video on social media which shows what appears to be a police officer stealing money during a raid.
In the four-minute-long video which is time-stamped 20 February 2026 the officer is seen in the room of a residence which is being raided by police.
A CCTV camera captures the officer pocketing what appears to be cash and other items from the room.
Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said they need the person who shared the video to come forward.
"We want the person who issued the video clip to come forward and open a criminal case for investigation. We encourage anyone who witnesses corruption taking place to report it to saps immediately."
Van Wyk said criminality within police ranks cannot be tolerated.
"The management of the saps views the unbecoming behaviour of the said member in a very serious light. Saps will not hesitate to act against its own when found to be on the wrong side of the law," said Van Wyk.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has not yet indicated whether the incident is being investigated.
