Romanian fugitive to appear in court for alleged drug trafficking links

A Romanian fugitive wanted by Interpol for allegedly being part of a drug trafficking ring is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The man was arrested at his Constantia home in Cape Town last week.

Stainslav Stamenov was sentenced to 16 years in prison in Romania but fled.

He has been living in the southern suburbs of Cape Town for several years, working as a personal trainer at a Constantia gym.

Stamenov has been on an Interpol red notice since he fled Romania. 

He was arrested by the National Intervention Unit on Friday.

Stamenov's expected to make the court appearance for an extradition hearing.

At the same time, Zimbabwean authorities are also expected to handover fugitive Alton Ncube wanted for murdering his wife in Gauteng in February last year.
