Richard Shibiri to testify before Madlanga Commission after damning allegations

The suspended head of South African Pollice Service (SAPS) organised crime, Richard Shibiri, will finally have his say at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry following damning allegations against him.

Shibiri is due to appear at the commission on Wednesday, which was established to probe allegations criminal infiltration into the country’s crime prevention system.

Previous witnesses have implicated Shibiri of receiving bribes, unduly interfering with the work of Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) and being in the pockets of the alleged cartel members.

Witness A, an officer within the organised crime unit at SAPS, told the Madlanga Commission how Shibiri interfered in the investigation of engineer Armand Swart.

Witness A said Shibiri told him the suspects in the murder case were very dangerous people and even offered him a bribe to drop the case.

Suspected crime cartel boss Katiso ‘KT’ Molefe was later arrested for orchestrating Swart's murder.

Witness C, a member of Gauteng’s counterintelligence operations, also testified how Shibiri received R80,000 from another suspected crime cartel boss, Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala.

There was also testimony from another police officer, witness F, who produced WhatsApp messages showing Shibiri pleading with controversial entertainment blogger Musa Khawula to not write stories about Matlala.
