Shibiri explains texts exchanged with 'Cat' Matlala

Suspended head of organised crime at SAPS Richard Shibiri says he used to exchange texts with suspected crime boss Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala, however, it was for social purposes.

He's been accused by previous witnesses of being in the pockets of suspected crime cartel bosses, including receiving R 80,000 cash from Matlala.

Shibiri said he used to text Matlala on his personal phone and not on the SAPS-issued device.
“Unless otherwise indicated, such communications were informal, social or work-related within ordinary professional engagement and did not involve the disclosure of classified information, operational strategy or confidential investigative material.”
