It remains unclear how bribery-accused businessman Shaun Roos is linked to the City of Cape Town, nor what investigation he allegedly attempted to stop.

Roos is accused of offering a R4 million bribe to City Manager Lungelo Mbandazayo last week.

In exchange, he allegedly wanted access to municipal tenders and the halting of an internal investigation.

Mbandazayo alerted the police, who set up a sting operation and Roos was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly handing over R1.4 million to the city manager.

The 51-year-old appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

He's facing corruption charges linked to a multimillion-rand tender scandal.

The case has been postponed to next Thursday for bail information.

Roos's corruption charge falls under Schedule 5 offences under South African law.

This means if he intends to apply for bail, he must prove that releasing him on bail is in the interests of justice.
