US President Donald Trump has said that the United States must be involved in choosing the next leader of Iran.

This came after US-Israel attacks on Iran reached a seventh day, killing at least 1,230 people.

Iran kept up retaliatory attacks on Israel and US military bases in the region, with more than 120 killed in Lebanon, an estimated 12 in Israel, and six US troops.

Speaking at a press conference, Trump said the US should have a part in selecting Iran’s next leader to ensure long-term stability and avoid recurring conflicts.

Trump compared the situation to Venezuela, where the US is backing a leadership transition.

In January, the US military captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife in a surprise raid.

They were taken to New York, where they will face allegations of weapon and drug offences, which they deny.

At the time, the White House asserted that it was defending the American people from the devastating consequences of the illegal importation of drugs.

Trump also said it would be 'wonderful' if the Kurdish forces in Iraq came across the border to fight the Iranian security forces.

“Trump says this conflict is the biggest and best military operation that the world has ever seen. He said the Iranians are all but wiped out," reported world news correspondent Vicki Turner in an interview on 702.
