The Democratic Alliance (DA)’s mayoral candidate in Johannesburg, Helen Zille, said the current administration in the city has allowed corruption to become the order of the day.
Addressing party supporters at the Johannesburg City Hall on Saturday, Zille unveiled five of her most pressing priorities should she be elected mayor.
Top of her list is fixing the water crisis and tackling corruption within the municipality.

Zille said that under a DA-led City of Johannesburg, corruption will never see the light of day.
“We will have honest metro cops operating in every ward in the city. There will be no mercy for corruption syndicates.”
She said corrupt city officials who continue to improperly benefit from state funds need a strict and no-nonsense mayor.
“We will fire corrupt officials and send them to jail. They’ve been stealing money.”
She said a DA-government is willing to listen to and protect whistle-blowers.
