International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola says South Africa is monitoring the conflict in the Middle East with concern.

Lamola is briefing the media on current geopolitical developments in Pretoria on Wednesday evening.

The country has called for an end to the ongoing violence in the Middle East, advocating for dialogue. Earlier this month, the US launched strikes on Iran, claiming the country poses a nuclear threat.

This has seen Iran retaliate by striking countries with US bases in the region.

Lamola has reiterated the country’s stance.

"We have said that if called upon, and we've raised it with all of them, we remain ready and available to support any process to a peaceful resolution, to a ceasefire and we've continued to call for opening up of a dialogue amongst all the warring parties towards a peaceful resolution."
