Golden Arrow Bus Services condemned the torching of one of its buses in Mfuleni, Cape Town.
 
The bus was allegedly set alight during a protest in the area early on Friday.

It is understood that a group of angry residents took to the streets shortly before 6am, protesting against the deployment of a private security company and the demolition of informal homes on city-owned land.

Residents claimed the private security officers had been using heavy-handed tactics while trying to maintain order.
 
Golden Arrow Bus Services spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer said the bus driver was injured during the attack.
  
"The seriousness of these brazen attacks should not be underplayed. Stoning buses and setting them alight is incredibly dangerous, and it's never justifiable," Dyke-Beyer said.
