The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape said that readiness measures are in place to mitigate wildfires and pressure on water resources amid the intense heatwave gripping large parts of the province.

Hot weather swept through the province this week, with temperatures soaring to 42 degrees Celcius in Worcester and Cape Town.

The DA's spokesperson on local government, environmental affairs and development planning, Dave Bryant, said significant investments were made to the province's climate-adaptation strategy.

"The Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape says it’s closely monitoring the current heatwave and welcomes the Western Cape government's readiness to respond to risks linked to extreme heat."
