Veteran actor Soli Philander’s legacy has been described as one of faith, hope, and love. Mourners gathered at the Athlone New Apostolic Church in Cape Town on Saturday to pay their final tribute to the entertainer.
Philander was best known for his television work on shows such as Liriekeraai, Arendsvlei, and Devil’s Peak. Beyond his acting career, he was a dedicated activist for members of the LGBTQ+ community and a recipient of the Savannah Comics Choice Awards.
Caroline Peters, founder of the Callas Foundation and a funeral attendee, reflected on his impact: "Through his humour, his storytelling, and his presence, he brought people together and reminded us of who we are as a people. Rest in peace, Soli Philander."
Brian Torien, a close friend to the veteran entertainer, remembered Philander for his generosity and goodwill.
"His passion wasn't only his art and his creative force; his passion was for people. It's imperative to remember that Soli was not about himself. He was about his fellow human beings. To me, he was a dear friend."
