Another bloody weekend in Cape Town, as at least six people were killed in crime hotspots.

The shootings come as the province awaits the deployment of soldiers to help police curb escalating gun violence.

On Friday, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the deployment of 2,200 SANDF soldiers across all nine provinces.

That same day, one man was killed and another injured in a shooting incident in Seawinds near Muizenberg.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, two more people, a 19-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, were shot dead in Ravensmead, with another victim left injured.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said they arrested two suspects and the motive is believed to be gang-related.

"Ravensmead SAPS Crime Prevention Unit, who were patrolling in the vicinity, heard the gunshots and chased a white Toyota Etios who chased away from the scene. The occupants of the vehicle fired several shots at the members. The members pulled the vehicle off the road in De La Ray Road. Two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene and two were arrested in the vehicle."

Van Wyk said two more victims were shot and killed in another gang-related shooting in Kalksteenfontein on Sunday night.

"According to reports, three unidentified males walked up to them and randomly fired several shots at them and fled the scene."

He said the murder of a taxi driver near a gravesite in Harare, Khayelitsha, on Sunday night, is also being investigated.
