The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has recalled over 110 Lexus vehicles.
The recall affects some of the brand's models, which were distributed between 13 March 2025 and 16 January 2026.
The commission says the recall of these vehicles is because of faults in their automatic transmission systems.
NCC spokesperson Pheto Ntaba warns that the faults in the transmission systems of certain Lexus models could potentially lead to accidents or ignite a fire in the engine.
"The National Consumer Commission alerts consumers of a recall of certain Lexus LX500d vehicles distributed in South Africa by Lexus South Africa Motors. The recall affects Lexus LX 500d F Sport and LX500d overtrail vehicles distributed between 13 March 2025 and 16 January 2026, with approximately 110 units identified in the South African market."
Ntaba has urged those who bought the affected models during the stipulated time to visit an authorised Lexus dealership for reprogramming of the transmission ECU.
"Consumers who own the affected vehicles are urged to present their vehicles at an authorised Lexus dealership for reprogramming of the transmission ECU, which will be carried out at no cost to the consumer. The NCC continues to monitor this product recall in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act."
