Madlanga Commission: Witness G to testify privately

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has agreed to allow Witness G, a Crime Intelligence officer who manages agents and informants, to testify "virtually and off-screen" under strict terms on Wednesday.
This, after he requested that his testimony be held behind closed doors, with his voice distorted.
His lawyer argued that publishing Witness G’s identity risked those around him who are neither agents nor informants.
According to the commission's secretary Dr Nolitha Vukuza, only the "commissioners, evidence leaders and staff of the commission; and the parties and their legal representatives" can be present for the proceedings".
Moreover, Vukuza said: "No persons may disclose the identity of the applicant or any information that is likely to lead to the disclosure of the identity of the applicant."
The commission has invited media outlets to justify why this ruling should not stand will have to "give notice of their intention to do so on or before 23 March 2026 and file any affidavits in support of their opposition on or before 26 March 2026.
“In the event that the proposed ruling is opposed, the applicant and the evidence leaders will be entitled to file replying affidavits on or before 31 March 2026 and the application will be set down for hearing on a date to be determined by the commission,” explained Vukuza.
