Some pupils were discharged from the facility after being treated for minor injuries

The child's parents said with the injuries their daughter has suffered, they are concerned about whether she will recover to full health and be fit enough to play basketball professionally like before.

“Fracture to the spine and the neck, the skull, swelling in the brain and bleeding to the brain, broken ribs, broken wrist.”

Her parents said while some of her top achievements include representing South Africa for youth games, national tournaments and being signed to the Soweto Panthers in the Basketball National League as the youngster player, she wants to go international.

“Wherever she was, they reached the maximum for that particular team, so most of the teams she played for, they won twice gold.”

No one has been arrested for the crash, but police have confirmed that a case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened.
