The provincial disaster management centre, alongside various departments, has been working to locate the missing men and provide relief to communities still reeling from the January floods and the ongoing rains.
This comes as the province continues to battle heavy and persistent rainfall, with rivers overflowing and multiple bridges washed away, including three bridges in Gumela village, south of Musina.
In a statement, MEC for Cooperative Governance Basikopo Makamu warned residents to remain alert and avoid crossing overflowing rivers or damaged bridges, noting that images and videos of people engaging in risky behaviour have been shared online.
Spokesperson Tsakani Baloyi said, “Remain extra vigilant, as inclement weather persists. This is in the wake of what appears to be a continuous disregard of safety protocols.”
Community members are urged to follow safety protocols, report incidents immediately and cooperate with rescue teams to prevent further tragedy.
