A municipal election in a small town in France has gone viral after its candidates, Charles Hittler and Antoine Renault-Zielinski, ran for mayor.
Social media has been inundated with jokes about the battle between late German dictator Adolf Hitler and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Hittler says it is an old French name, when they touched the border of Germany. And he is proud that he has kept it in his family,” reports Turner.

While his campaign faced challenges, including people drawing moustaches on his campaign posters, Hittler won the election with 431 votes.
“Hittler up against Zielinski, who would have thought that,” said Turner.
