Newlands Cricket Ground could soon have a name change as the sponsor's naming rights come up for renewal.

CapeTalk's Lester Kiewit spoke to Western Province Cricket Association CEO Corrie van Zyl.

The current deal is with World Sports Betting, so the world-famous venue is called World Sports Betting Newlands Cricket Ground.

Van Zyl said they undertook a valuation with an international partner and have a figure in mind, but he can't divulge it.

"We always felt that Newlands, because of its iconic status, has a price tag to it. This exercise has given us a real value based on scientific research done by companies like Futures. So that has given us a confirmation that the value that we put on Newlands is actually the right value."

Van Zyl said it's an exciting season coming up and that the Protea Women will also be playing an ODI against India at Newlands. "So that's added to the content for this season. We didn't have a good season; our West Indies match was taken away. But next season is going to be a bumper season and after that the World Cup."
