The Gauteng Education department said that its deeply saddened by the death of a Grade 3 learner from Lerutle Primary School in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.
The child died after part of a school wall reportedly collapsed on him during break time on Thursday.
Five other learners were seriously injured in the incident and were taken to various healthcare facilities for treatment.
This is the third incident in a week, in which pupils from Gauteng schools have lost their lives.
Earlier this week, two Gauteng pupils died after they were stabbed in separate incidents.
In the first incident, a matric learner from Daleview Secondary School in Ennerdale, was fatally stabbed while walking home from school.
Last week Friday, a Grade 8 pupil from Forest High School died after he was severely attacked at a local park.
Gauteng education spokesperson Steve Mabona said the latest fatal incident, involving the grade 3 pupil from Lerutle primary school, is being probed.
Mabona said that the school and the boy's family are receiving the necessary support.
"The Gauteng department of education has deployed psycho-social support teams to provide counselling and emotional support to affected learners, educators, and the bereaved family during this difficult period," said Mabona.
Meanwhile, the department has since appointed a law firm to investigate the death of 10-year-old Milton Mokgoastane, who was reportedly struck by a goalpost at the Reagile Primary School in Tembisa, back in February.
