The taxi industry in the Western Cape is undergoing a renewal process as the recently elected leadership of the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in the province was introduced at a meeting in Khayelitsha.
On Wednesday, the gathering focused on practical ways to build unity, growth, and stability across the sector.
The industry in the province has faced numerous difficulties in recent years, including deadly route disputes and extortion.
Several taxi owners and drivers have been killed in ongoing violence across the Western Cape in recent years.
Hundreds of taxi bosses and drivers from different regions gathered at the Mew Way Hall in the hope of finding solutions to these concerns.
The meeting also reflected on progress made and the future of the industry.
