A women’s and children’s rights organisation says it is disappointed by yet another postponement in the extradition hearing of convicted paedophile Iain Wares.
The 86-year-old former South African teacher appeared in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for his extradition hearing.
He is wanted in the United Kingdom to face 90 charges of sexual and physical abuse dating back more than 50 years, when he was a teacher in Scotland.
‘I feel so relieved,’ says Iain Wares survivor after guilty verdict
Wares has been accused by more than 100 men, who claim he abused them at Edinburgh Academy and Fettes College, where he taught in the 1960s and 1970s.
Some of his accusers travelled to Cape Town to attend the court proceedings, where the matter was postponed to April 28.
Women and Men Against Child Abuse director Miranda Jordan said the delay is a letdown.
"It's not great to be sitting in a courtroom with three grown men who have travelled thousands of kilometres to be in court to see the man who abused them when they were little boys all between the ages of 9 and 12, once again be able to walk out because we have another postponement in his extradition."
