The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) is warning the public about a fraudulent job advertisement circulating on TikTok and Facebook.

The fake posts claim that applications for a 2026 Metro Police and Traffic Learnership Programme are now open.

The department has distanced itself from the posts, stressing that they did not originate from the JMPD or the City of Johannesburg.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said while vacancies were advertised last year, the process was halted due to internal administrative procedures.

He said there are currently no open positions at the JMPD.

"The JMPD does not use third-party websites (such as ".xyz" or ".co.za" domains) or WhatsApp numbers to facilitate applications. All legitimate vacancies are advertised through the official City of Johannesburg website. The public is urged to exercise extreme caution. These fraudulent posts are designed to exploit job seekers and may be used to solicit bribes or steal personal information."
