Farm women under the Women on Farms Project will lead a protest convoy to Parliament on Tuesday, demanding urgent action on land reform.

The group is calling on the Departments of Land Reform and Rural Development, Public Works and Infrastructure, and Agriculture to speed up land expropriation and redistribution.

They say many farmwomen still face landlessness and homelessness.

The organisation also points to ongoing evictions from commercial farms, where some families have lived and worked for generations.

Women on Farms Project Co-Director Carmen Louw said 32 years into democracy, many farmworkers have little to celebrate.

"We are saying, especially in the Western Cape, where very little land reform has taken place, there is vast tracts of agricultural state land that can be redistributed to farmworkers and farm dwellers for housing. Also, land that they can utilise to generate an income independent of that of a commercial farmer," said Louw
