Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa's body to leave Paris for SA on Thursday night - family

9 October 2025 | 4:02Senior members of the Mthethwa family arrived in Paris on Wednesday to perform key rituals as they prepare to bring the ambassador's body home.
The family of the late South African ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, has confirmed that his body will leave Paris for South Africa this evening.
The mortal remains are expected to land at the OR Tambo International Airport on Friday, before being taken to the King Shaka International Airport in Durban.
Mthethwa’s uncle, Musawokuphila Mthethwa, said a procession would then head to the family home in KwaMbonambi, north of the province, ahead of a category 2 official special funeral for the 58-year-old on Sunday.
Mthethwa died in Paris last week - the cause of his passing is still under investigation.

His uncle, Musawokuphile, said the family would leave France on Thursday night and be home by Friday.
And while government prepares for the final send-off, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli said they would honour Mthethwa.
"He was there in France on behalf of all of us, including the people of KwaZulu-Natal, and for his immense contribution that he has made in the lives of people of South Africa, as he had been in government."
The full details of the funeral are yet to be communicated.
