KwaZulu-Natal police chief, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has urged Parliament to look into forensic investigator, Paul O’Sullivan, and his involvement in what he calls questionable police dealings.
Mkhwanazi also accused O’Sullivan of holding clandestine meetings at his house to discuss Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) business with the police watchdog’s former head, Robert McBride.
Mkhwanazi made the revelations during his last day of testimony before Parliament’s ad hoc committee probing police corruption.

Mkhwanazi’s testimony on Wednesday also touched on how even IPID faced interference from outside.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema had asked Mkhwanazi if O’Sullivan was one of the rogue elements that are destabilising the police and have captured senior police officials.
Mkhwanazi responded by saying O’Sullivan had a vested interest in the country's ports of entry, like the OR Tambo International Airport.
O’Sullivan was arrested at the airport in 2016 for contravening the Immigration Act after he was found in possession of three passports.
"He’s got citizenship in three countries and that makes me wonder."
He said O’Sullivan also wielded influence over IPID.
"I’m saying this to members because it’s what Mr Cedric Nkabinde told me, who’s now chief of staff in office of minister. That operations of IPID were planned, coordinated, and executed at Paul O’Sullivan’s house."
Mkhwanazi invited Parliament, through its structures, to look at McBride’s tenure as head of IPID and how they were interacting with O’Sullivan and their movements.
