CapeTalk’s Lester Kiewit speaks with Nick from Edgemead in Cape Town.

Imagine trying to drift off to sleep after a long day only to have the sound of chainsaws rock you awake.
This is the experience of many Edgemead residents who are having their evenings disturbed by tree harvesters.
Wood harvesters have been cutting down trees on public land late in the evening and in the early hours of the morning, much to the dismay of the nearby communities.
Nick says he woke up to the sound of chainsaws on several occasions at 4AM last month.
He lives opposite a small forest near the N7 where there are about 60 blue gum trees.
“About 30 of these trees have been chopped down in the past month or so.”
- Nick from Edgemead
“They definitely have not been invited to do that. Not at that time of day.”
- Nick from Edgemead
Nick has spoken to the local councillor who shared that they have been trying to catch these individuals for a long time.
