Chefs with Compassion aims to feed 400,000 people for Mandela Day

Chefs with Compassion has an ambitious new target this Mandela Day of cooking 100,000 litres of soup.

This will be enough to feed 400,000 people.

They are calling on anyone who can to cook, donate, or spread the word of their #67000litres for Mandela Day initiative.

Since 2020, the campaign has cooked a staggering 450,259 litres of soup, serving over 1.8 million cups to hungry South Africans.

Pillay says people from all over the country have been participating - either through financial donations, cooking food at home for the community, or working at one of the participating kitchens.

“This is what the spirit of Madiba Day is all about. It is that spirit of coming together, the spirit of sharing, and the spirit of giving.”
- Chef Coo Pillay, Chefs with Compassion

This is the sixth year of this initiative, and Pillay says they are confident they will be able to meet their target.

Chefs with Compassion works all year long to turn surplus food that would otherwise go to waste into meals for those in need.
