Delft taxi operations remain unaffected after deadly shooting

Delft taxi operations remain unaffected following a deadly shooting at a local taxi rank.

A 50-year-old man, believed to be a taxi owner, and a woman were shot and killed near the Palm taxi rank on Monday night.

Police said the victims were travelling in a private vehicle when unknown gunmen ambushed them.

Monday night’s incident marks the second deadly shooting at a taxi rank in Delft in less than a week.

The Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (CODETA) believes the recent killing of one of its members is linked to the ongoing conflict in Cape Town's taxi industry.

CODETA chairperson Nceba Enge said the organisation is deeply saddened by the loss.

"We also think that this is taxi-related, as much as we don't have evidence of that at the moment."

Enge has called for calm as police continue their investigation.

Last Thursday, three people were killed at the Voorbrug taxi rank.

Despite the violence, minibus taxis in the area are running as normal. Police have launched a manhunt for those responsible for both attacks.
