Doctor launches Cape Town’s first-ever ‘Open Door Clinic’ for accessible healthcare

Dr Abrahams-Crocker completed her MBChB at Stellenbosch University in 2021, and now she's opening the first ever 'Open Door Clinic' in Mowbray, Cape Town.

She hopes to help the community in a kind and compassionate way by providing free doctoring services.

The initiative hopes to provide access to free healthcare for anyone who needs it - there are no rules for who is eligible, says Abrahams-Crocker.

"If you come here and need help, we'll help you... I trust you, you trust me," adds Abrahams-Crocker.

Here’s how it works:

The date of each Open Door Clinic will be announced at the start of the month which will include:

  • 20‑minute consultations including history, examination & diagnosis/referral if needed.
  • Pay what you can, if you can - but there’s no pressure.
  • Lab tests can be offered via Pathcare, but patients will have to pay their own lab fees directly to Pathcare.

Bookings are essential via Halaxy.com and select the 'Open Door Clinic' option when booking for the specific day.

Abrahams-Crocker explains how the idea came about on Mandela Day...

"I realised I didn't really have the funds to contribute anything monetary on Mandela Day, but I had my skills and expertise that I was willing to offer. So, we opened the doors on Mandela Day for the first-ever Open Door Clinic... we saw patients for free and we saw how successful it was and how much of a need there is for it."

"From there, I decided why not do it once a month and help those who need to see a doctor but don't have the funds..."
- Dr Hannah Rose Abrahams-Crocker
"While I would like to help as many people as possible, I would rather focus on quality care for the people who are in my practice and if my practice grows, it can extend to something bigger..."
