E-hailing drivers unhappy with Uber's 50% service fee

JOHANNESBURG - E-hailing drivers gathered outside Uber's offices in Parktown said they were previously charged 20% for using the company’s e-hailing service, and the rate had changed to 50%.

Uber driver, Florence Mokgwale, said they were protesting on Tuesday, as this affected their profit from the business too.

Mokgwale was part of a group that submitted a memorandum on Monday and were promised a response by close of business on the same day.

She explained why they were now protesting.

"I don’t know what it is, I can’t explain the tax, what it’s about, they just introduced it, this is one of the fights we have that Uber, when we came to the business, they said we are partners, but we are no longer partners because they are making decisions without us."
