JOHANNESBURG - Ekurhuleni Speaker and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) councillor, Nthabiseng Tshivhenga, has survived a motion no confidence in council on Thursday.
Tshivhenga is accused of protecting fellow EFF councillors, who are accused of attacking African National Congress (ANC) members during a council meeting in February.
ANC and EFF members joined forces to keep her in the mayoral office.
"The results are as follows: Those that are in support of the motion of no confidence against the Speaker - 90. Those that are against the motion of no confidence against the Speaker - 116."
This comes two hours after the city's mayor was removed through a no-confidence vote exactly a year since he was elected to the position.
