In the lead-up to FNB Art Joburg in September, the leading contemporary art fair will be hosting an exhibition this weekend.
The Art Prize introduces and spotlights a new voice in the African art scene each year.
Nyaude will showcase his solo exhibition ‘Sugar Coats’ at the Johannesburg Art Gallery on Saturday, 23 August, in collaboration with First Floor Gallery Harare.
Born and raised in Mbare, Harare, Nyaude’s images combine figuration, abstraction and hallucination.
“It’s been a year of great possibilities… to be recognised on the continent by your own people is such a big thing for me.”
– Gresham Nyaude, FNB Art Prize 2024 winner
“I like to use metaphors and symbols and things that we go through every day, translate them to the canvas.”
