JOHANNESBURG - Lawyers for Doctor Nandipha Magudumana have denied that she received any direct payment for the Netflix documentary about her and her accomplice, Thabo Bester.
On Friday, the pair’s bid to halt the broadcast of the documentary, titled Beauty and the Bester, was denied.
The court dismissed their application with costs, striking it off the roll for lack of urgency.
On Thursday, advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, arguing on behalf of Netflix, revealed that Magudumana was paid to provide archives for the Netflix documentary, which she was now challenging
But her attorney, Dinana Reid, denied this.
“There was never payment directly to Dr Magudumana. If there was any payment, it was used for the legal fees from the papers that I looked at, and it was claimed to be for the archives.”
In her judgment, Judge Sulet Potterill was critical of Reed and Magudumana’s legal teams for their last-minute application and the filing of papers hours before the hearing.
Both Magudumana and Bester’s lawyers said they were disappointed by the judgment.
