JOHANNESBURG - A former investigator linked to the Senzo Meyiwa trial has survived an attempted kidnapping and armed robbery.
Police confirmed that the officer was travelling in a state vehicle on Thursday evening when he was followed by a group of suspects, who tried to force him into the boot of the car.
A state-issued firearm, a laptop, and several other items were stolen during the incident, however, the officer managed to escape unharmed.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola said that no sensitive information was compromised.
"General Fani Masemola confirms that no sensitive documentation, as well as no exhibits or evidence, were taken during an armed robbery and attempted kidnapping incident of a former investigator linked to the Senzo Meyiwa case. The member is safe and did not sustain any injuries during the incident. The original docket and copies thereof, as well as exhibits linked to this case, are safe."
