CapeTalk’s Clarence Ford speaks with Vuyo Lee, Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).
Listen below:
The JSE has launched its nationwide ClaimIt campaign, having identified R4.5 billion in unclaimed dividends owed to South Africans and their families.
If you think you have unclaimed shares you can visit the JSE ClaimIt website and fill in a form.
With National Wills Week coming to an end, this campaign raises the question of what happens to investments when you pass away, and how can your heirs claim what is theirs?
Lee says that around R100,000,000 of this money has been linked to deceased estates.
“There are families of 100,000 people out there who can come and check whether they are beneficiaries, or if they can receive those dividends.”

Lee says it is so important to have a will, as this will make the beneficiaries clear and can make it easier to claim these funds.
Without one, the individual will need a letter from the court or the representative of the estate to confirm that they should be given this money.
