A memorial bust of American rock legend Jim Morrison, stolen from his grave in Père-Lachaise Cemetery 37 years ago, has been accidentally recovered by French police.
The nose of the bust is broken while people have graffitied all over the face.
The statue of The Doors frontman, missing since the late 1980s, was found during an unrelated financial and anti-corruption investigation in Paris, police said in a statement.
No details about the circumstances of the discovery or the individuals involved have been released, and no suspects have been named in the original theft.
Morrison’s grave has become a magnet for fans from around the world. Graffiti, tributes, and other markings surround the site, which sits among the final resting places of cultural giants like Oscar Wilde and Edith Piaf.
Morrison died in 1971 at the age of 27 while living in the Marais district of Paris. He was found dead in a bathtub by his girlfriend, Pamela Courson and his legacy lives on through his music and now... this recovered statue.
"The family are saying they would like it to be returned to the grave but no decisions have yet been made, so just a shout-out to all the Jim Morrison fans, that's just a bit of history we've just unpacked."
