South Africans have been warned to expect more rain on Christmas Day and going into the new year.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS), during a media briefing on Thursday, explained that the country is currently transitioning to a weak La Niña event.
This means wet conditions are expected to continue until mid-summer.
Forecaster Jacki Modika urges people to be aware of thundershowers when planning to travel this festive season.
"Communities are, therefore, urged to remain vigilant, especially during periods of persistent and intense rainfall. Looking ahead to the festive season, including Christmas and New Year, the South African Weather Service expects partly cloudy, warm to cool conditions across most parts of the country."
