RABAT - Internet access in Morocco was gradually returning on Tuesday after a major power outage on the Iberian Peninsula disrupted international connections, telecom provider Orange Maroc said.

The subsidiary of French telecoms giant Orange said on Facebook that "the internet connection is being gradually restored as international connections affected by the electricity outages in Spain and Portugal are restored".

The company said on Monday that Morocco's internet network had been disrupted by the outages that hit mobile and internet services as well as rail traffic in Spain, Portugal and part of France.

Morocco's airport authority ONDA said check-in and boarding systems were back to normal.

By early Tuesday, electricity had been restored to most areas of Spain and Portugal, though the cause of the blackout remained unclear.
