No more cropping! Instagram updates image uploads to 3:4 aspect ratio
This means when you upload a photo with that ratio, it’ll now appear exactly as you shot it without cropping, preserving the original composition.
CapeTalk's Clarence Ford speaks to Barbara Friedman about trending online stories.
Listen below:
Instagram now supports photos that have a 3:4 aspect ratio, meaning that when you upload a photo with that ratio, “it’ll now appear just exactly as you shot it,” Instagram's head Adam Mosseri says in a Threads post. He also notes that “almost every phone camera defaults to” that format.
This also means that users can upload pictures without cropping, preserving their original composition just as they were taken.
Instagram's creator broadcast channel also announced the new change, confirming support for the 3:4 aspect ratio for both carousel posts and single-image uploads.
"It's always been a bit of a challenge because up to now Instagram has always only allowed a square photo which is quite iconic to Instagram for me. So, good news if you love Instagram but you've always hated cropping your pictures."
