South Africa’s Amajimbos were crowned the Cosafa (Council of South African Football Associations) U17 champions over the weekend after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Angola.

The victory means they have consecutively qualified for the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The tournament featured 12 Southern African nations competing for a spot in Afcon.

“Our coaches at development [level] need to be applauded and acknowledged; they are doing fantastic work.”
– Vela Khumalo, head coach – Amajimbos

Amajimbos player Omphemetse Sekgoto was recognised as the Player of the Tournament.

“We know that they are talented, they are technically gifted, but do they want it? That’s the most important thing… Sekgoto is one for the future, and I see him playing overseas.”
– Vela Khumalo, head coach – Amajimbos

The team will be back in action in November when they head to the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar.
