The men’s 4x400m was equally superb with Gardeo Isaacs, Udeme Okon, Leendert Koekemoer and Zakithi Nene taking gold.
In the women’s 4x400m relay, Shirley Nekhubui, Miranda Coetzee, Precious Molepo and Zeney van der Walt clocked a national record to win bronze.
Whitehead says this is the result of Athletics South Africa's drive for relay camps, giving athletes space to be consistent.
“[They’re] identifying that the relays can bring medals given the depth that’s available… so the results are starting to come.”
