JOHANNESBURG - Two people have been burnt beyond recognition in an accident that occurred on the R63 road between Xesi and Dikeni in Eastern Cape on Saturday night.
The incident took place at around 9pm.
It's understood that the driver of a sedan may have lost control and veered off the road.
It overturned and caught fire with two occupants still trapped inside the vehicle.
Eastern Cape Transport spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said rescue personnel were unable to determine the race or gender of the two occupants.
"After nearly three days of no fatal crashes, a much-needed reprieve from a province that has been reeling from one fatal crash after another, now within a space of three hours we have lost three lives from two separate crashes. The rest of those happened on the R63 where the driver of a sedan seemingly lost control, it overturned and caught fire with the two occupants of the sedan still trapped in the vehicle. Sadly, they were burnt beyond recognition."
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, another person died following an accident involving a five-door wagon and a panel van on the N6 outside of Komani.
