An attorney for the man who caused a crash that claimed the lives of 14 school children in Vanderbijlpark said his client is remorseful.

Ayanda Dludla was arrested in January and faces charges of 14 counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder and one count of driving without a permit.

He appeared in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court on Thursday, where his matter was postponed to 22 April for disclosure of the docket.

Dludla's attorney said his client is not coping behind bars.

During his court appearances, Dludla has consistently bowed his head down.

His newly appointed attorney Reward Nxumalo said this is because Dludla is not doing well emotionally

“He cries in between the sessions. He's not doing well.”

He said he will be exploring options for psychological counselling for his client.
